Deepseek v4 flash: cheap and good-enough.

Mon, 22 Jun 2026

I'm loving Deepseek v4 Flash as my goto model in small, personal tools!

Gets the work done and is affordable enough that I don't have to think about the API cost every time I pick up the tool.

Ghostty Splits appreciation post

Thu, 19 Mar 2026

I've been a steadfast user of tmux for, I dunno, the last 15 years or more.

But over the last week I've moved over to using Ghostty's Splits feature on my personal laptop.

tmux only on servers now, maybe that was how God always intended it to be.

I'm excited for session management features to land in Ghostty.

Having Ghostty run on all my machines and being able to attach to running sessions would be incredible.

More thoughts on using GLM 4.7, for socials

Tue, 10 Mar 2026

Using GLM 4.7 from Cerebras works like a charm! It's the most immersive and in-the-flow experience.

You just have to watch for the context window, but GLM 4.7 goes wonky beyond around ~40% context window usage.

But until you hit that point, wow, what an experience.

Default temperature, top_p, clear_thinking settings for Zai-GLM-4.7

Wed, 11 Feb 2026

Hello 👋! Are you also a Zai-GLM-4.7 user?

You'd be surprised to know that tweaking the values of the temperature (= 0.9), topp (= 0.95) and clearthinking (= false) flags significantly improves GLM-4.7 performance on coding tasks!

Try it out for yourself!

(Hat-tip: Jan M Feddersen)

Quote Post

As a Pi user, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't configure the temperature, topp, clearthinking values when calling GLM-4.7.

But, turns out, its really easy to write your own custom provider for Pi! Now I have my Pi harness chugging along at full speed on Cerebras wafers!

Thoughts on beads

Thu, 30 Oct 2025

Steve Yegge's beads is a superb idea. But the implementation is vibe-coded to hell and fraught with bugs.

Great side-project idea: Implement beads from scratch as a serious project, showing care for the quality of the release artifact.

Firecrackers and Rocketboys

This Diwali, burst less "rockets" and "atom bombs" and instead re-watch Rocket Boys on Sony Liv.

Ignite passion for scientific excellence and competitiveness, alongside diyas and kandils.

Announcing Love for Jujutsu

Sun, 28 Sep 2025

I can't believe I've been sleeping on Jujutsu for so long! Thanks @ghoseb for pointing me to it!

After 18 years of using and loving Git, I've spent the last 2 days getting my mind blown. Genuinely exciting.

I've already moved every repo I've opened these last two days to Jujutsu.

Start from the Jujutsu tutorial written by the fantastic Steve Klabnik.

JJ feels like all the great ideas of Gerrit, without the major learning curve of rebase.

jj new and jj squash is all you need!

My reply to b0rk on why I love git

Tue, 19 Mar 2024

People like hating on git, but I think it's mostly non-serious griping as they are learning a complex tool.

I would never under any circumstance go back to either CVS or SVN. In fact, I went from beginner-level git understanding to intermediate-level git understanding just teaching my sub-team how to use the git-cvs and git-svn bridges so that we could use git locally.

As a community, we've progressed so much on great deployment practices, and I think a lot of that is tied to git.

I have tried bzr (emacs used to use this) and hg (as an academic exercise, so not really in-depth), both of which IMHO lacked any new insight as compared to git.

The context

This was my reply to b0rk's original toot:

i've been hearing a lot from folks on here who are frustrated with git (for many good reasons!)

but I'm curious about the opposite perspective: if you've worked with more than one version control system over the years and you prefer git, I'd love to know:

a) what other systems have you worked with? (hg? svn? p4?) b) why do you prefer git?
